Late last year we installed a full digital radiology system.  Instead of using film, images are taken using a sensor similar to a very high quality digital camera.  They are then displayed on a dedicated computer where the images can be cropped, magnified, and manipulated to yield the maximum information possible.

The image is stored on a hard disk in a standard DICOM format for later retrieval and analysis if desired.  Studies can easily be sent via email or burned onto a CD for referral purposes.
